The Life and Times of Jim Jones
In 1956, he bought his first building and named it the People's Temple Full Gospel Church. By the late 50s, Jones had found his calling: leading his congregation with an antagonistic challenging rhetoric. He pushed them into being a socialist collective that he deemed religious communalism. To him, this meant members giving up their possessions to the church in exchange for the temple taking care of them.
