The Importance of the Altar in the Old Testament

The Lord appears to Isaac, just like he'd appeared Abraham on numerous occasions. And in response to this, Isaac builds an altar and calls upon the name of the Lord. The reason you have all of these altars is because that is the place of mediation between God and man. So anytime you read a story about an altar being built in the Old Testament, know that you see here a shadow of the cross.
