The Paranoia of Cricket in Afghanistan
I don't think there was any sense of cricket competing with other games. The competition was entirely internal. Cricket is complex and it's got a whole bunch of cultural entailments that actually makes it quite difficult to symbolize certain things to different cultures. And the part that I don't get is okay so test cricket is too slow and too boring. But football is most popular sport in the world, people will sit there and watch an ill or draw. Watching a full day of test cricket is like watching three football games back and back. You can go away and do something else.
