The Persistence of Marriage and Dogamy
Only 5 to 6% of Indians marry outside their caste or their jati, says Ravi Agrawal. Marriage and dogamy is the biggest barrier in annihilation of caste, he adds. It's very difficult to give incentives when it comes to marriage; state can't intervene. Most inter-caste marriages that are taking place are in IT sector - Agrawal: "If we get to live 20 more years, caste will become old Purana Kila"
