Investigators don't believe that that's actually what happened. But they think that there are maybe like kernels of truth in there. Like Oakley really has passed away, just not the way Jay described. And there are more clues. Jay only talks about Oakley in the past tense. When they ask her if her sister was hurt at all, her only response is to just start crying. Both siblings paint a clear picture of what life in their house was like and how Oakley in particular was severely abused. They make a comment about how everyone made it out of the fire except Oakley.
