The Myth of the Origins of America
Jamestown is sometimes buried within the American origin story because it's seen as being a failed colony. But ultimately Roanoke was influential for the settlements that came later in terms of mapping out that part of North America. And although ultimately it failed and the colonists dispersed and disappeared, it did at least give English settlers some sense of what it might look like to try and establish a colony there.
