The Role of France in the Niger Coup

The coup in Niger may have just been sparked by the fact that President Bazoum was going to fire the chief of his presidential guard who didn't want to be fired. But there seems to be one other narrative that the coup is kind of anti-colonial upset. I suspect that this should not be read as taking a strong position on the French colonial legacy of 70 years ago, one way or another. And if the reason they're here in the first place is because of generations of colonial mistakes, that's a separate conversation to be having.
