The CIA's Conspiracy Theory in Guyana
The CIA had some political interest in not only allowing the massacre to happen but in manufacturing it. The agency's official historical presence in Guyana during the time of Jones Town stretches back to 1953. Throughout the 50s and 60s, the CIA funded opposition unions to strike against the Jagan-led government. They also sought to raise tensions between Afro-Gyanese and Indo-Gianese citizens.
