The Role of Formative Assessment in a Competency Based Education Program
CBEs work with employers to understand what's that program level competency said. Then we go through a backward design process to say, OK, well, what does it mean to demonstrate mastery of that? Practice is really important in this model because that's the role of the formative assessment. The first formal CBE programs emerged in the 60s and 80s where it was all based on mastery.
