The Origins of Barbecans
Barbecan is a term used to describe a gate outside the gate. The word derives from I think there's disagreement over which precisely which language, but it's either Persian or Arabic. It's like Babakan - one of those words means gate. And you start to see barbecans being a start to see people talking about barbecs in the West around the year 1200.
