When I turned up for my first interview at Goldman Sachs in 1982, I didn't actually know who Goldman Sachs were. Before that, a guy with a PhD in mathematical physics, going to Goldman Sachs, you weren't the guy that was living in breathing and trading when you got there. They were looking for a certain type of thinker, aCertain type of thinking. Yes, they were looking for somebody that's some sort of mathematical background. Computer programs are also important. It's sort of useless being a statistician without being able to computer program,. Without being able to program a computer, because it's like being a novelist you can't write.
