Immigration and Nationality Rights - The Fee
The fee was 35 pounds when it was first introduced. We are now at one thousand and 12 pounds, which most of it goes into the immigration system. The labor government generally decided that it would start trying to make money out of the fees that it could charge for immigration and nationality purposes. It didn't then think about how what it would mean to charge someone for their citizenship rights. So it wrapped everything up together and started charging fees far above the cost of any process.
