Do You Know When You're Turning It Down Low?
When you turn it quiet enough, the background should disappear. To really get a nice, dry, tight, yet dimensional and present tone, i find the need to add a short room in there. Use a figure eight microphone for capturing that air so you can only capture sound coming back from front. An acoustic munk may be just outside the door of your living room or bedroom. If you're working in a very dry, small room, do you find productions lack, quote, air without adding a room tone via short reverb?
