Is It Really Harder to Read and Learn Chinese?
Ashi: Is there really an intrinsic technological or cognitive challenge posed by ideographic character writingrit is it actually harder? Does it put us behind to read and learn and thinking chinese as opposed to english? Ashi: The history of writing system is five thousand years old. So evolutionarily speaking, humans could not have evolved fast enough to have a neural capacity specifically designated to read languages. And so this idea that is generally assumed between chinese and alphabetic writing is similar to how we tend to pretend that two civilizations are utterly diametrically opposed to each other and utterly different.
