You're generally thought of to be in the clear, as long as the copy you have made is for your own personal use and not for commercial purposes. But we saw the r i a react in similar ways every single time a new consumer tech with copying abilities appeared. The fear being that if it's easy to make perfect copies of stuff, piracy will run rampant and music industry as a whole will collapse. Now, i do not totally buy that argument, by the way.
