In recent years, people have tried to fit Foucault into a wider history of neoliberalism. I think the logic of how Foucault is working is sometimes lost here. He's much more trying to understand sort of in term dynamics of text and what frame of reference it's working within. And he finds fascinating as a way of thinking about this relation that we have with our own essence or subjectivities.
