I Don't Know What Can Make Americans Care About Imperialism
When Avatar came out, there was a real phenomenon of people talking about how they were depressed after the movie because they couldn't go to Pandora. But what they were really depressed about is the fact that they live on Pandora and we destroyed it. Because they've accepted it at a deep level, their powerlessness because of their comfort or comfort is attached inextricably to this machine. And so you have to cling to it even as you hate it.
