The Challenges of Studying Perpetuation of Sexual Violence

One of the challenges of studying perpetration is that people don't necessarily see their behavior as sexual violence and so they may not even identify themselves as somebody who could answer these kinds of questions in an affirmative way. So for example if you ask the question have you ever forced someone to do something sexual that they didn't want to well some of the people who probably should say yes because they've actually done it don't actually see themselves of having forced it. People are labeling their own behavior which I think adds further complexity to the whole literature on sexual offending and sexual victimization just in terms of the researcher definition versus the way the person is describing their own behavior.
