Hermann Goring asked for permission to take over the leadership of the Reich. Hitler's secretary convinced his boss that Goring was planning a coup. Heinrich Himmler had offered to surrender to the Western Allies. The offer, by the way, was declined by the Allies. He ordered Himmler's arrest and then he had him executed.
