Knee & Sports | Anterior Superior Iliac Spine (ASIS) Avulsion
The Orthobullets Podcast

Introduction
An anterior superior iliac spine or ASIS avulsion occurs in young athletes. It is caused by a sudden and forceful contraction of the sartorius and tensorfagellata. Diagnosis is made radiographically with displacement injuries, but CT slash MRI may be required to diagnose non-displaced fractures. Non-operative management includes rest, protected weight bearing with crunches, and early range of motion and stretching. Surgical treatment is indicated for fractures greater than 3 centimeters displaced.
