Introduction

In Canto IV Dante awakes on the other sides of the Acheron River and it's unclear how he got there. This sets up an air of mystery and expectation almost in the fourth Canto which turns out to be very very significant. It's one of the canto's where Dante really shows that either he's working received wisdom into something new or as I think is the case he has received new insightnew visionNew understanding into the Christian dispensation will expand his work beyond what most people today might assume.
