Psychology is a complicated field. There's lots of cogniive biases. We tend to take the path of least resistance in life. This is why defaults work, it's very easy. You can still go out to eat with people who'd remove yourself from the group that would have you spend money on video games and popgorn and shopping. Sadly, these benefits are associated with them so we don't execute this realy well.
