The listening operation closed down during the war, not least because Salon Kitty was heavily damaged in an Allied bombing raid in 1943. So at the most, it only went on for two to three years before it was closed down. The Nazis themselves were got around, that Salon Kitty was a dangerous place and anything they said there would be reported back to Heinrich. One of the clients of the brothel was Joseph Goebbels, the Nazis' propaganda mastermind. And he also patronised brothels like Salon Kitty. We're not sure where the funds to set up the brothel as a listening post came from, but it could well have come from the foreign ministry.
