The Return of Israel to the Promised Land

The book of Judges is both a backward looking and forward-looking narrative. What we see happening here with Israel is going to be the same thing that we see replayed over and over their history. Once they cross the Jordan, once they enter into the promised land, they're going to face this same temptation over and over again. They will ally themselves in various ways with the peoples of the land, end up committing the sin which brings the wrath of God on them.
