The Origins of the Russian Secret Police
The origins of the KGB and Russian secret police can be traced back to the 16th century. In 1917, Lenin understood the importance of a secret service and they set up the checker. The Cold War after the Second World War really kicked off in terms of espionage and propaganda. It was full on as it were. And the KGB was actually only set up in 1954.
