What's Going on Under the Hood?

McLuhan says people who select the music that's played in grocery stores and supermarkets, they don't see it as music. They see it as programming. And I can see this today because right now in the supermarkets, they're playing 80s music because they know which generation is doing the shopping. It shows to what extent what's going on in a supermarket is unconscious. The way that you're moving through the space, experiencing your past. That past is influencing how you're experiencing these goods on the shelves. You're just moving through the shop and you're putting stuff stuff in your shopping cart.
