Using a Compressor to Enhance the Snare Sound

The third type of snare compression is probably the most confusing. Using a compressor to emphasise the sustain tail can help make the drum feel more rich and powerful without apparently increasing its subjective level in the balance. What you do need to pay attention to when using this kind of processing though is the exact release time setting, because adjustments to that parameter can make quite a big difference to the character of the sound.
