The History of the Kennel Club
In 1865, John Henry Walsh came up with an agreed standard on what a pointer should look like. These standards are then used in dog shows to judge all pointer types. In 1873, the Kennel Club adopts and ratifies breed standards. And that's how we have these kind of nationalized and then subsequently internationalized ideas of what particular breeds should looklike.
