The Tudor Queen's Craving for Quails
Jane's pregnancy was announced in the spring of 1537, with a baby due in the autumn. We know that during Jane's pregnancy, she relied very much on the companionship of her stepdaughter, Mary. And we also know that she developed a craving for quails. Henry went to great lengths to try and obtain these for her because they were out of season at this time. So I think Jane must have been delighted when, throughout the spring and summer, quails were arriving in large quantities at the court to satisfy her every craving.
