The Importance of Being a Mrs Lewis
I was really intrigued by the fact that Elliot called herself Mrs Lewis. Why do you think she made that decision? They weren't married and they never were able to legally marry but they described the relationship as a marriage. So this gives them quite an ambiguous sort of status. In a way she's kind of stretching the very concept of marriage rather than seeing marriage as something that's a legal status, a socially sanctioned relationship.
