Are They Just Bored or Really Superstitious?
There's a lot of this kind of magic running through newingn puritanism in the seventeenth century. It runs through christianity at all levels, including educated people. And joseph smith is sort of out on the edges of that, picks it up. So were they just bored, or really superstitious? Well, superstitious is the majority of word. They're good christians who believe in the powers of the supernatural. We, of course, are offended by it. But i think that's a comment oour on prochialism as much as it is on jo smith's situation.
