Trans People Don't Have Anything to Fear From Journalism
The social contagion theory is that young people who are female assigned and they will usually call these teenage girls are being drawn into diagnoses of gender dysphoria. The theory makes an analogy to suicidality, which we do know people are more likely to be suicidal if that's kind of normalized in either through media or in their family or in their friend group. What I found over time was that there really isn't any evidence for it. There aren't many, many more female assigned youth who are identifying as transgender. Like if you just ask kids, are you transgender? It's a pretty even split.
