The Influence of the Church on the Black Death
Getting into heaven or out of purgatory required continual acts of piety and worship. So donating to the church for priests to sing masses for your soul at the souls onee with the idea that when you died, you'd have a shorter time in purgatory. It's hard to underestimate the import ance of the church in offering ordinary people a channel to god. Some of the most interesting and useful sources that we have on the plague come from the church.
