Inflation, oil crisis and moletary control make it harder for the b b c to justify its own spending. The election of margaret thatcher as prime minister in 19 79 hangs over the b bc for the next decade. It was a bit like the church or the universities, or the civil service, or the n h s, or local government. In other words, in her mind, it was bound to be inefficient.
