Henry's Response to the White Ship Disaster
Henry lost his only legitimate son and heir in the white ship disaster. He remarried to a woman called Adelisa of Luvon, also considered very beautiful known as the caremaid of Brabant. But there were no other children for Henry who was already in his 50s when he married this young girl. After a few years it became clear that there probably was a problem in providing another heir. His elder child Matilda had been brought forward and she had been widowed. She later remarried and had half a dozen children actually with a second husband.
