Cathedral often been compared to great ocean liners or cruis ship. Run by a body of canons or monks, and they are very much the officer class. They decide what goes on, but they don't do all the work. And in monastic cathedrals, they have chancery priests. There could be quite a lot of of people in a cathedral.
