Bill Graham had set up a Fillmore East in New York, and now he closed down his original Fillmore. He rebranded the former carousel as the Fillmore West. At the group's first gig at the newly renamed Fillmore West, they spanked Bill Graham without his consent. This was sadly a common practice for the band, and they didn't just do it to their human friends but to animals. Remarkably, Graham continued to work with them for the rest of his life.
