When you do these breathing exercises in conjunction with relaxing your body, it shifts you from engagement of this sympathetic nervous system to engagement of your parasympathetic nervous system. The next thing she taught me was actually a recognition that I was hypercritical of myself. And so once she made me recognize that, she gave me the tools, if you will, to be self-affirmative and make positive statements to myself.
