Slow Slip Sequences Predicting a Future Earthquake

slow slip earthquake is something that we observe happening on the seduction zone under the North Island. We can get very large earthquakes on that seduction zone interface but what we've seen and it's a really quite a new discovery only in the last decade or so. There's been a kind of pattern observed that when these slow slip earthquakes are happening we tend to see a heightened amount of activity in the form of earthquakes at the volcanoes in the central North Island. Are these slow slip sequences predictors of a bigger quake coming at all or is there still no link between a future quake and these slow slips? There's a lot of active research into that and the short answers we're not sure
