The Rise and Fall of the Civil Rights Movement
The march turned the screws on the government as calls for civil rights reached a higher pitch than ever before. The next year, with Martin Luther King Jr. in attendance, the Civil Rights Act was signed into being by President Lyndon B. Johnson. After the act was signed into law, he continued to campaign. His activism cast an ever wider net as King moved to Chicago and was confronted by the racism of the North. This prompted him to launch the Poor People's Campaign which focused on improving impoverished people's income and housing.
