The Operation Barbarossa
Your father was sent to a collective farm in Soviet Ukraine during the Cold War. He and his family were able to send food through mail, which saved their lives. Your grandmother also taught your father English and other languages as part of Operation Barbarossa. She later called this farm an island of hunger and death.
