A Quote From a Typhoid Survivor
The typical typhoid survivor was so weakened and compromised by the disease that he or she later would succumb to other infectious diseases like tuberculosis. Most people survived the bout with typhoid, but only by the skin of their teeth according to one study of mortality in Chicago. By the time Bill Kennedy left the hospital, he was prematurely gray. Competitive running was out of the question. The brick layers and amateur athletes of Chicago organized a fundraiser for Bricklayer Bill. He had enough to pay his medical bills.
