The Problem With Suburban Growth in the 20th Century

In the 20th century everyone was a pedestrian, so it was very hard for cities to go outwards. So those constraints on outward growth meant that you tended to get quite intensive growth on a smaller area of land. We're just not willing to build on more green areas or we have limited willingness to build onMore green areas. And so time has come for people, even people who intrinsically think suburbia is a good idea.
