The History of the U-2 Planes

U-2 spy planes were deployed over the USSR intermittently from July 1956 to May 1960. The Soviets used a ground-to-air missile to shoot down a U-2 spy plane piloted by France's scary powers. This resulted in the cancellation of a Paris summit scheduled for mid-May of 1960, meant to discuss the tensions in a divided Germany.
