People incorrectly say that economics is not a science because we cannot conduct controlled studies like are done in the physical sciences. We use statistics to accomplish what otherwise would be accomplished by setting controls on an experiment. You end up with much messier answers at the end of the day than you do with a controlled experiment, but you do end up with answers. There's a preponderance of the evidence that leads me to this conclusion. I see where reasonable people might disagree, but I still think I'm right.
