Normal Is a Damaged Illusion

In the introduction of your book, you say, normal is a damaging illusion. So i'm interested to know how it is that your travels and your exposure to different cultures led you to that conclusion about what normal is and what it isn't. Normal is what a society considers to be good or ideal. In the united states, the history of normality is tied up with an effort to enforce homogeneity. The so called age of conformity, beginning in the 19 fifties. And the concept of normal was then used to criticize, to marginalize, to stigmatize people who didn't fit into that ideal.
