Elizabeth Taylor's Life in Melbourne

Elizabeth Taylor was born in 1844 in Manchester and moved to Melbourne in 1872. She lived at Waxman's Cottages, now demolished, just around the corner from here. Today Richmond is a gentrified inner city suburb but back then it was home to both Rich and Paul. The wealthy lived on the hill while the working classes had settled on the lower ground. Many women started out in domestic service before being lured into factory work. And some, like Elizabeth Taylor, set themselves up in the abortion business.
