The US Sent a Spy Plane Over the Soviet Union
Dwight D. Eisenhower was about to meet Nikita Khrushchev in the first summit between the two leaders. The US sent was sending surveillance planes over the Soviet Union and one of them was shot down right before the summit. And Adlai Stevenson, who had been the Democratic candidate against Eisenhower, but who was then appointed by Eisenhower to be the US ambassador to the UN, said, that's a lie. This is a complete made up thing by Soviet hard liners.
