studying at the University of Puerto Rico made me keenly aware of issues related to Puerto Rico's colonial relations with the US. So this personal experience is an elephant exposure to the works of the South Asian School of Subaltern Studies, literary criticism and cultural studies. And when I started framing my project in the early 2000s, the then emerging field of German Pascogonal studies, it is not so hard to imagine why I propose in the book to do a Pascogona reading of 19th century Germany's Eastern borderlands.
