The SEC is cracking down on staking, or the practice of using virtual money to validate real-world transactions. It's part of a broader effort by regulators to make sure that traditional finance and crypto are in compliance with regulations. Staking works like this: You agree to let an exchange hold your tokens for free; they then use them to verify other transactions.
